Abstract
Migrations are turning the contemporary society into a multicultural one. Consequently, we come across the term multiculturalism in various areas of everyday life, including the field of education. This is the field I have focused on in my thesis, specifically – the role of volunteers in the process of inclusion of migrant children into the Slovenian school system. The theoretical introduction includes a detailed description of the terms migration and multiculturalism; the concept of intercultural pedagogy and the position of migrant children in Slovenian schools, focusing particularly on the role of volunteers in the process of inclusion of migrant children into the educational system. The empirical section includes a situational analysis carried out within the framework of Slovene Philanthropy where I am currently working. It includes the analysis of how migrant children are being worked within six Slovenian towns. I have added an example of best practice and an insight into the work by one of the volunteers. I have concluded that Slovenia and its school system show a lack of opportunities for successful integration of migrant children, proving that the role of volunteers in this process is of high importance.
