Changes occur today faster than ever and are the sole constant characteristic of our society. Globalization has created an illusion of connectedness, since nothing appears far, but on the other hand it has put a distance between us, as we do not know our closest neighbour. We live in an era of individualization, uncertainty, social differences and unjusticies, which every individual faces by himself. The state of welfare is failing and is being replaced by the tertiary sector, in which common services (can) arise. With participation in mutual systems people satisfy their needs for the community or even for their existence. Evaluation of the one year work of The Time Bank of Slovenia shows that a (sufficient) number of participants does not necessarily mean that exchanges will take place, but that it needs a hard work of a broker who would encourage activity with meetings, networking etc..
