    Abstract

Psychophysiology studies the interactions between physiological and psychological events. It is an old idea but a new science. Including psychophysiology into the field of education can better our understanding of the learning process, enable explanations of student’s behaviour with physiological measurements and therefore give us an additional insight and interpretation of the researched phenomena. Here we used psychophysiology for comparing the three different kinds of learning. Firstly, we defined psychophysiology and the chosen physiological measures (heat flux, skin temperature, energy expenditure, metabolic equivalent of task, skin conductance, skin response). Next we described the emotional process and cognitive process of learning. We continued with definitions of traditional learning approach, kinaesthetic learning approach and distance learning approach. Afterwards we explained the concept of the cognitive load and how it can be associated with the difficulty of learning content and described the synchronisation phenomena. Based on this we designed a research study where we compared physiological measures according to the learning approach, difficulty of learning content, physiology of special needs children with the rest of the students, observed the changes in skin conductance signals and analysed their synchronisation.Besides conducting the psychophysiological data of students our data was also gathered with knowledge tests, questioners, with an interview and with video recordings. We analysed all of the data and connected it with psychophysiological measures. Our findings showed statistically important differences in several parts of our research, therefore proved the need for psychophysiology’s use in education research.
