    Abstract

For humans and for other living beings, the garden represents one of important living spaces. It connects the human with nature, provides him with food and simultaneously ensures him a corner where he can relax, reflect upon things and talk them through as well as take a much-needed rest. On Slovenian territory, school gardens can pride themselves with rich history but some historic occurrences (both world wars, industrialization etc.) have caused their numbers to decline significantly in the past. In the last decade, we can again observe elementary schools' interest to establish school gardens. School garden is one of the most appropriate locations for studying due to the fact that while the child is participating in it, (s)he can establish contact with nature and develop important values and opinions while simultaneously mastering numerous skills and crafts. In my degree paper, I wanted to establish whether participation of pupils in working in school garden is eventually manifested as changes of those pupils' eating habits in comparison with pupils which are not active in school garden, and the way in which this is reflected. 103 pupils from one of Ljubljana's elementary schools participated in my research. Results have shown that only 6th grade pupils were actively working in school garden. These students were shown to eat a healthier diet than the others, plus there were some other positive effects of school garden which are also quoted in literature by other authors.
