Analysing light with colour in painting

Ana Fon (2019) Analysing light with colour in painting. Diploma thesis.

Download (1870Kb)

In my final thesis I focus on the concepts of light an colour which are strongly intertwined. Colour is a key element of painting and light is key for the perception of colour. I break down the use of colour to depict light in paintings through the analysis of works of different artists and try to determine how artists depicted light in various historical art periods. I explore the expressive possibilities of colour for displaying light through an analysis of my own paintings. My artworks are focused mostly on brighter colours and use of subtler light effects essentially creating light and illusion of depth with minimal differences in brightness.
