    Abstract

    The paper presents the results of a survey on the amount of outdoor lessons implemented by teachers at the subject Science and Technology subject in the 4th and 5th grades of the primary school, the differences between teachers themselves and between teachers and pupils as well as about ideas and limitations of outdoor education. In the research we used a descriptive method of pedagogical research and a quantitative research approach. The study included 70 in-service primary school teachers of 4th to 5th grade and 154 pupils of 4th grade and 151 pupils of 5th grade of primary school. The data was obtained with two questionnaires, for teachers and pupils. The teachers’ answers showed that they implement 13 % of the outdoor education into their educational process. The results showed statistically significant differences between teachers with different years of work, while differences in the amount of outdoor education did not arise among the teachers of different school strata. There are no differences in the amount of outdoor education among teachers who have an early experience with outdoor education in the nearby of the school compared to the teachers who have no early experience with outdoor education in the nearby of the school. The results of the research show that teachers perform more outdoor education in the nearby of the school than the pupils perceive. Outdoors teaching is for the majority of respondent teachers a challenge, however, many teachers deal with this at least several times a year.
