    Abstract

    The views of home economics teachers influence the assimilation of students' knowledge and skills in home economics education. It is important that the contents of the home economics education are adapted to the needs of the individual and society, which significantly affects the quality of life of persons involved in home economics education. The purpose of the research was to determine the teacher's views on the importance of home economics education in elementary school. The data was collected using the method of a focus interview. Seven teachers were involved in the focus group, teaching home economics and other subjects. The analysis of the results showed that teachers believe that the knowledge and skills that pupils gain in the field of home economics education are important for the quality of pupils' lives and it is important that they are obtained in primary education. It is important for them that pupils develop social skills and knowledge in the field of food, textiles, home improvement, economics, consumer education, sustainable consumption and health. According to the results of the research, it is necessary to supplement the curriculum for the subject home economics and more appropriate placement of the subject in the elementary school curriculum.
