    Abstract

    The area of conflicts and mediation got my attention at the beginning of my study. That is why I decided to upgrade my knowledge throughout my education. I have been visiting a course where we practiced mediation and learned some important principles. Beside the knowledge about the mediation I also gained the motivation for my thesis from qualifying as a mediator. Mediation can be used almost everywhere, in many areas, many professions, including social pedagogy. It can also represent the way of work, i.e. the method which is used by professional worker. It is especially interesting in solving conflicts. Conflicts need attention and should be solved. Conflicts have also appeared in residential institutions which I dealt with during the writing of my degree. The empirical part of my research is focused on theoretical presentation of elements of mediation process. Furthermore, I am trying to find out the importance of resolving conflicts with an assistance of pedagogical workers. The main part of research represents the usage of mediation. In spite of the fact that mediation is well known among pedagogical workers, they rarely use it. But it comes as a surprise that many of them believe mediation should be used more often. This encouraging fact gives mediation the opportunity to become more identifiable and useful tool for solving problems in many more areas.
