Abstract
The diploma thesis presents various aspects of animals included in animal-assisted interventions. In theoretical part, I introduced different possible ways of animal-assisted interventions: animal-assisted therapy, animal-assisted activities and animal-assisted education. Animals became common visitors in educational settings all over the world. I presented positive influences on various aspects of human life, as well limitations when animal-assisted interventions are not possible to perform and ethical dilemmas on the field. I continued with presentation of the impact animals have on children and importance of animals in educational settings. I described which basic rules we have to consider before starting animal-assisted intervention. Canine assisted reading is widely spread method for struggling readers. In empirical part I explored which canine assisted reading form are used in our county, in which ways and how often. I used qualitative research of semi-structured interview and observation, being present at two reading programs. Results indicate that canine assisted reading programs have positive impact on children´s reading as well as theirs’ self-confidence.
