    Abstract

    This thesis represents the needs of adolescent girls and work and the role of an educator in a student dormitory. TThe theoretical part describes the period of adolescence and its specific developemental tasks, which especially exposes a particularly vulnerable subgroup of girls. This is followed by an overview of pedagogs tasks and his/her role in a student dormitory and is completed with a chapter of Don Bosco’s educational system of prevention. The purpose of this thesis is to present what the needs and challenges of the adolescence are for the youth, how the role of the educator, his/her way of working are adjusted to these same challenges and what kind of a support he/she can offer to these in overcoming their difficulties. Moreover, the theoretical part also presents the preventive educational system as a way of working with young people in students’ homes, where research has been done. The empirical part is qualitative and it examines whether the needs of adolescent girls, researched by individual conversations, match with the ones exposed in existing researches and theories or there are some new needs found. Then, through my own reflexions of conversations with the girls there the way of work with adolescent girls is described . In addition, the usefulness and actuality of the preventive educational system as a way of working with adolescents is argued.
