    Abstract

The Master's thesis entitled A serious computer game using the basics of mathematical logic presents some basic definitions of the concept of games, the theory of computer games and serious computer games. We analysed primary school syllabuses (the Mathematics syllabus and the syllabuses for optional subjects Logic and Mathematics workshop) and primary school textbooks for inclusion of the basics of mathematical logic. The main learning objectives of the competition in logic, organised by the Association for Technical Culture of Slovenia, were interpreted as well. Finally, a serious computer game named The last dragon, designed as the end product of this Master's thesis, was evaluated in class. The first part describes the main elements of serious computer games and different types of them. We evaluated the advantages and disadvantages of their use in class. In continuation we focused on the question of how to introduce mathematical logic into the concept of a serious computer game. In the second part we analysed the syllabuses for the compulsory national curriculum subject Mathematics and for optional subjects Logic and Mathematics workshop. After thorough analysis of textbooks chosen by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport and the learning objectives of the competition in logic, we designed in details a serious computer game named The last dragon, which includes the principal elements of serious computer games. In the end we interpreted the data, obtained with the help of a testing protocol, which was used to test the game. Due to some problems, encountered during the testing process, its results are merely of informative nature. Nevertheless, they suggest the usefulness of The last dragon from the student and teacher's points of view.
