    Abstract

In our society, unemployment is a growing problem as the unemployment rate increases rapidly and the number of jobs available decreases. There are fewer employment opportunities and people are facing a long-term unemployment and therefore become resigned as they feel unable to live independedly. This thesis studieds the long-term unemployed and how they cope with their situation. The theoretical part is concerned with education and its role in experiencing and coping with long-term unemployment. In the theoretical part, the unemployment and long-term unemployment are defined, and I looked at those individuals who are exposed to this situation. This thesis also studies the consequences of unemployment and long-term unemployment, and different ways of coping with it. Further on, the empirical part includes a qualitative research which focuses on the lives of individuals; how they cope with unemployment or long-term unemployment, who helps them to overcome their problems, how they spend their leisure time etc. My aim is to highlight the multiple ways of experiencing and coping with long-term unemployment.
