    Museums are complex and rich environments where visitors can get a unique experience. Through the conjunction of different areas, children entry into the world of history and thereby gain insight into the society. Like this, they get awareness of other cultures, traditions, festivals, ways of life and their social skills are developed. In the first part of this work, we learn about theoretical facts concerning the museum. Subjects such as museums in general, museum pedagogy and museum educational workers, which are needed for pedagogy in museum to develop, are presented and analysed. Further on, the focus is on methods, types of work and learning in museum, especially on experiential learning with hands-on approach. This knowledge was applied for the preparation of educational workshops at the museum. Thus, in cooperation with the City Museum of Ljubljana, we have prepared a workshop that is suitable for pre-school children. With the example of a good practice we want to show the positive features of the workshop to the preschool teachers and encourage them to visit the museum. In the second part, the interest is on how children experience the museum, if experiential learning is successful and if visiting cultural institutions is enhancing awareness of the impact on the child's cultural heritage.
