    Abstract

The purpose of the thesis was to investigate the health of special education teachers who teach in elementary special schools with lower educational standards in the Central Slovenia region. 89 special education teachers participated in the study, average age 37 years. Data were collected in 2013 through a questionnaire, which was summarized and organized according to the needs of the study from questionnaires Health-related behavioral style (CINDI Slovenia, 2008) and Stress profile questionnaire for teachers (Youngs, 2001). The primary objectives of the research were to find out how special and rehabilitation teachers assess their health; how many of them are regularly physically active in their free time; determine which are the most common medical problems they face most frequently; are they often under stress; if they tend to lower stress with regular physical activity; if they ever feel any signs of burnout and how satisfied they are with their working environment. According to data obtained by the survey, the special education teachers are in good health, and they take good care of their health. They are eating in a balanced way, most of them are non-smokers and sleep for about 6 to 7 hours per night. They are on sick leave for 8 days a year, on average. They are regularly physically active in their free time, quarter of them is never moderately intense physicaly active, they are in a minority engaged with very intense physical activity. Allergies, headaches, digestive disorders, diseases and defects of the spine are medical problems, that occur among them on regular basis. About a third of them are often stressed out, they have, at least once a month, problems with chronic fatigue, exhaustion, headaches, digestive problems and often colds, which are all physical symptoms of burnout, that they percieve at work. They reduce stress with physical activity also. Otherwise, they work in well arranged working environment and are satisfied with it in general.
