In the first part of my diploma thesis, the concepts that are associated with the concentration of pupils during the class are defined. As a starting point, the concept of learning was defined within which key importance lies in the phenomena such as learning motivation, self-regulation as well as learning strategies and habits. It is important how we learn as this affects the quality of remembrance and memorizing the content. One of the important factors for successful and quality learning is also focus, which allows us to direct our concentration to a specific learning content, and maintain it during the process of learning. The ability of concentration is partly innate but we can strengthen it by using certain mind games, exercises and physical activities. The second part of the thesis includes empirical research in which class teachers from twenty Slovenian elementary schools had participated. Based on the questionnaires, I gained information on how the teachers face the problem of pupils` concentration during class. With this questionnaire I checked the difference in the concentration of the pupils teachers observed, the average concentration of pupils during the class, to what extend and how teachers strengthen the pupils` concentration in the class, and which factors influence it according to the teachers` opinion. The results show that teachers perceive a decline in the concentration of pupils through different generations, and that the pupils are not able to maintain concentration throughout the class hour as their thoughts are focussed on a variety of situational factors in the environment. As estimated by the teachers, the concentration of pupils during one hour class lasts for an average of 20 minutes. The concentration of pupils during the class is affected by different factors, among which the most explicit are lifestyle (the way of spending free time, diet), the method of teaching and upbringing.
