Zoos are one of the many informal educational institutions, where people are not only entertained, but can be learned about the current environmental problems associated with animals. Different performances of zoo´s visitors about animals could be analyzed through the conversations that are being performed, while watching certain animal species. The content and the course of the conversation are normally affected by many factors: the purpose of the visit; the social composition of the group; previously obtained: knowledge, attitudes, stereotypes; attractiveness of the observed animals. This research was used to determine the content of the visitors’ conversation about selected animal species. Conversation of zoo´s visitors about three charismatic species (viper – Vipera ammodytes, sea lion – Zalophus californianus and chimpanzee – Pan toglodytes) were recorded with help of special recorder and were further more processed with an appropriate computer program. Contents of conversation of 540 persons (137 men, 169 women and 234 children) was analyzed. 146 people were involved in conversation analysis while watching sea lion, 141 people at chimpanzees, and at viper 253 people were involved. For all three species, constant attention to a space or an animal was recorded. Visitors payed full attention while watching sea lion and chimpanzees, while in the case of viper, spices was mostly overseen due to the more attractive species, located nearby.
