    Abstract

Good relationships between teachers and students are the basis of quality school work and pleasant and encouraging classroom climate. Even in art education classes it is important that mutual relationships between the teacher and students are good and based on mutual respect and trust, since this is the condition for relaxed work environment and quality individual art expression of students. In art education classes students develop in the affective, psychomotoric and cognitive field, therefore proper methods and work forms, adjusted to learning goals, art tasks and concrete students are also needed for the establishment and maintenance of good interpersonal relations and positive communication in the learning process. The study of interpersonal relations in the classroom covers the personal relationship between the teacher and students, which is manifesting through the interpersonal behaviour of the teacher. Here it is important, how often and how the teacher leads and helps the students in the classroom, how he encourages their responsibility and creativity and understands them or is unsure, unsatisfied, reminds them and is rigorous. All stated types of behaviour are indicators of the relationship between the teacher and students, therefore, in the thesis we have analysed this relationship in art education, how students perceive the interpersonal behaviour and how the teacher evaluates his own behaviour in art education classes. For the research we have used evaluation scales for students and the teacher, formed after the Questionnaire for students on interpersonal behaviour of teachers in the classroom (Marentič Požarnik, 2000; after Wubbels and Levy, 1993). The data was then statistically processed with the computer program SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) and quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed. In total we have processed 35 evaluation scales for students and 2 evaluation scales for teachers and have found that interpersonal relationships between the teacher and students in art education classes are good, since both teachers with their positive characteristics and behaviour develop and encourage good interpersonal relationships in art education classes. The interpersonal relationship between the teacher and students in the art education class is definitely better, when the teacher pursues and encourages student’s autonomy and creativity and considers their individual differences in art abilities. It is also important that the teacher constantly encourages students to have good interpersonal relationships and represents an example with his behaviour and communication, not only in the art school class.
