    Abstract

    Speech is a complex and intensive process that is being developed from prenatal era till the adulthood. Speech is a very important resource in human life as it serves for the establishment of contacts and communication with the surroundings. Our duty is to provide children optimal environment for the development of speech, guide and encourage them to speak and enable them a variety of activities that encourage verbal and non-verbal communication. In the theoretical part I have presented the development of speech and the factors that affect it. These factors are family environment, peers and kindergarten. In the empirical part I have researched the difference in storytelling among children of different age groups and environments. Furthermore I have also researched how the gender, age, inclusion in the kindergarten and the level of mother’s education affects the storytelling, its coherency and cohesiveness. The results have shown that the girls have reached higher score than boys, that the six years old have achieved higher score than four years old and that the children of mothers with higher education have reached higher score than the children of mothers with lower education. Apart from that I have also found out the importance of the environment and conditions in which the children is telling a story.
