    Abstract

In my thesis I tried to establish whether there is a connection between family roles, hierarchy and power in family. In the theoretical part, I present various definitions of families and then describe a family as a system. In the subchapter on roles in a family, I present them in general before describing the role of mother, father and children seperately. Knowing that a certain structure applies to every family, I speak of three fundamental elements of a family system such as: boundaries, subsystem of decision making, power and hierarchy. In the last subchapter of the theoretical part, I present three types of families: closed families, arbitrary and open families. The empiric part is based on quality research for which I used a partly structured interview. The results are shown in tables. In this part I establish whether family members recognize their roles and the roles of others, what the roles are like and whether the family members are aware of the influence of the roles on their lives. I focus on relations based on roles. I deal with detecting family hierarchy and power which individual possess, emotions and methods of resolving conflicts inside a family. I found out that there is a connection between the roles, hierarchy and power in a family and that family members are aware of their roles and power. In the discussed case hieararchical arrangement and power change alongside with the changing of roles only with children.
