Supply and quality in public and private kindergartens

    Abstract

    In the theoretical part of my diploma work Offer and quality in public and private kindergartens I focused on the meaning of public and private nursery schools in education of preschool children, with special emphasis on quality prosecution of preschool education. I also shortly summoned the day care of preschool children at home, since it is part of my research work. In the chapter about private and public kindergartens I described main features about how public and private kindergartens are founded and organised. In addition, I compared principles, goals, legislation and programmes of the two. In the chapter about the quality in kindergartens special emphasis was made on quality in preschool education and learning, on recognising and assuring quality and also on the methods of quality assurance in relation to cooperation between kindergartens and families as an important aspect of quality. In the empirical part of my diploma work the main goal was to determine the level of parents’ satisfaction with the offer and the quality of services, on the one hand of public kindergartens and on the other hand of preschool children in day care at home. I focused on parents’ aspects on the relationship of educator towards the children, communicational aspects between parents and kindergarten employees, on interior and exterior space arrangement, their opinion on nutrition in kindergartens and their view about the financial contribution they pay monthly for their child. Based on the results of my research I came to the conclusion, that there are no significant differences in aspects of the interviewed parents on the offer and quality of services in public kindergartens and day care of preschool children at home. Looking at all of the questions, the interviewed parents of children in day care are a bit more satisfied with the services than the parents of children in public kindergartens. Statistically important differences in parents’ aspects are only present when comparing nutrition, the interior and exterior space of the kindergarten.
