    Abstract

    In the thesis I covered the development of child's speech by using a picture book. I divided the thesis into two parts. In the theoretical part I defined what speech, language, picture book and reading are. I introduced the development of child’s speech and factors that influence it as well as the value of picture books and reading in the process of child’s development. In the empirical part I used a questionnaire to carry out a survey in which I tried to find out educators’ opinion on how picture books influence child’s speech development. The results show some educators do not realize the importance of frequent reading of the picture books for child’s speech development. At the same time, they notice differences between children who read with their parents and those who do not. Moreover, they also notice insufficient awareness of the parents at choosing appropriate children’s literature.
