    Abstract

The research of post-penal treatment in Slovenian area is nowadays commonly ignored. It is a treatment that is offered to an offender during and after an imprisonment. Aiding an offender should start at the beginning of a prison sentence. Post-penal treatment includes in particular an assistance for temporary accommodation and food, ensures the necessary health treatment, the arrangements of the new environment, an assistance in arranging the family situation, an assistance in finding suitable employment, an assistance in training and material assistance for the most urgent needs. Preparations for the release from jail and the assistance after the completed sentence have great importance in the process of offender’s resocialization. At the release, the offender has to face the consequences, which are causes of the institution. The negative consequences of imprisonment have long-term effect on an individual, and they strongly inhibit the reintegration in the narrower and in the wider social environment. Stigma remains forever. The main purpose of this qualitative research thesis is to find out how and to what extent Slovenia carries out post-penal treatment during the imprisonment and after the dismissal, so how statutory provisions are carried out in practice. The result of the research points to the failure of the post-penal treatment. The fact that the post-penal treatment in Slovenia is not on enviable level, is certainly a reflection of general social crisis in the country, therefore also of economic policy, education and training, housing policy and employment policy area. The social crisis is now present overall and it is not just a problem of the sentenced individuals.
